Positive Owner Reviews

It is electric and saves gas. It has great performance and technology.

Our Focus is fully electric. We bought it as a backup vehicle but find ourselves using it the most. Very comfortable for just the two of us and gas savings are great. Can't use for long trips and when we travel with more than four people.

Fuel efficient Ford Focus.

Shifts weird, good car though. Great gas mileage and big trunk. Wish the backseat was bigger but very roomy too. I am plus size and I fit in it comfortably. I drove 60 miles to and from work everyday in it and was only spending 20 dollars a week on gas.

That it's a great running car

It's nice looking. Good gas mileage. Also like the way it tells me what I need. Such as time for oil change or low washer fluid

Safety economy fun to drive

Good ride good gas mileage sporty good styling

My car is a lot of fun to drive!

It is a four door hatchback with a manual transmission, and I absolutely love that as that type of transmission is not commonplace. It provides good mileage and is good looking. It is not a premium vehicle but it works perfectly for me. My only dislike would be that it has limited room in the hatch, but that is minor.

It gets good mileage especially on open highways

It gets good mileage, easy to drive. The leather seats do get hot

It only has 10925 miles on it and it is four years old and still looks brand new

I like the size, it fits good for my wife and I The only complaint is that the transmission is a little jerky.

It is very cheap to fill up and run

It's cheap to run, comfy and looks nice. I have no complaints

Negative Owner Reviews

So many recalls every year.

Too many problems, transmission, automatic stick shift 'feature' feels very unsafe when driving, especially on the highway. The gas gage also does not work any more so they recommend to keep your gas level above the quarter tank line just in case. It seems like I am getting multiple recall notices every year.

Too many mechanical issues.

There have been multiple mechanical issues and recalls. The same recall has been fixed 3 times and is still having issues. The seats are also very uncomfortable for heavyset people. The leg room is very little in the backseat. There are also not enough cup holders in the vehicle.

I like the backup camera option. It has saved me from bumping into things.

Steering in rain is horrible. Slides all over the place when the weather is bad. Breaks are not the greatest either.

Ford focus of failures in my car.

Too many recalls I think that I have had at least six recall notices, one within the first 3 months. Poor transmission system recalled fixed and still failing . Gas mileage less than what was noted on door. Leaks poor design radio system does not work. Noisy.

That everyone I know who has bought the ford focus has had transmission problem.

Has been recalled because of transmission, has been in shop 4 times still does n to run right. . Also been recalled because of back doors coming open would n to recommend for anyone to purchase this vehicle.

Comfortable car with terrible mechanical issues.

Since purchasing the vehicle it has had 3 recalls on it. The transmission sticks and causes the car to drag and stall. The gas mileage is decent. The size of the car is great. It has plenty of trunk storage and the seating is very comfortable. Other than mechanical issues the car is nice. The mechanical issues really make me regret purchasing the vehicle. I will not purchase a ford again.

There's no truck space nor a lot of room in the back.

It is a ford. The car has transmission issues. I am on my forth one. And I have had it since October 2013 and now that my daughter is four, it is to small.

Car built with a terrible transmission...don't ever buy it

Terrible transmission. I've already had to buy a new one and pay for it out of pocket because ford won't cover it even tho it's a known issue and my car is still a new car. Even though I've bought the new transmission it still shakes and doesn't drive good either.

What Problems Does the 2014 Ford Focus Have?

The 2014 Ford Focus has more problems than the 2015 model year, but is an improvement over the problem-ridden 2012 model. Other compact cars have fewer complaints than the Focus. The 2014 Focus problems include doors opening while driving, engines stalling, and vehicles rolling away.

Transmission problems, including hesitation and jerking when starting, are the most common complaints owners have with the car. There is a transmission recall which solves some of the problems, but clutch replacements are also necessary in some cases.

Engine problems, including stalling and shutting off, are also brought up by owners. Several sources are known, including the fuel pump, computer, and injectors.

Power steering failures are also fairly common in the 2014 Focus. The only way to fix the problem is replacing the steering rack with a new one.

There are 12 recalls affecting the 2014 Ford Focus, worse than average for a car from 2014. Recalls include a sudden loss of power, engine wiring, steering gears, fuel delivery module, fuel pump, doors opening unexpectedly, charge cord overheating, and a stuck canister purge valve. All are serious and can cause mechanical failures.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

The 2014 Ford Focus is more expensive than other compact cars, with a price range of $6,525 to $19,130, depending on the model and mileage. When new, the price was $16,810 to $24,115. Depreciation is faster than average in the current market, losing about 55% of the value in the first five years.

  • S is the entry-level model with 15-inch steel wheels, power mirrors, and an AM/FM/CD stereo system with four speakers.
  • SE is above the S and has 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, and a Sync six-speaker stereo system, with Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Titanium is the luxury choice with heated leather seats, 17-inch wheels, and the MyFord Touch system with an eight-inch infotainment screen, and 10-speaker stereo.
  • ST is a sport-focused model and has sport cloth seating, a new suspension, and a more powerful turbocharged engine.

How Long Will the 2014 Ford Focus Last?

A properly maintained 2014 Ford Focus will last about 200,000 miles, and is average for a compact car. Repair Pal estimates annual maintenance costs to be about $565 per year, which is more expensive than other compact cars.

It just had one small problem with the transmitter system. However, that problem is not too significant and is easy to overcome.

Yes. It has been very reliable. I have not had any problems with it. That is saying a lot because I drive it pretty hard.

Again, beyond the wonky transmission, the vehicle has allowed for me to travel for work quite a bit.

It is a very reliable car. In the time I have been driving it, there has been no issues that I know of with the car.

It is a very reliable car, the only problem I have is the snow build up in the tires during winter. The car handle also is sticky but otherwise it is good.

My ford focus is rather reliable. There are a couple issues with it shaking when moving gears, that has not been fixed yet.

I haven't had any issues so far, I would say it is reliable. I only had one issue but it was electrical and therefore very minor.

The 2014 ford focus se is very reliable. I can see myself having it for a long time. It needs a better torque converter.

2014 Ford Focus Driving Overview

  • An upgraded engine is the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder which has 252 horsepower.

What Color Options are Available?

How Big is the Focus?

The 2014 Ford Focus is offered as both a four-door sedan, and a five-door hatchback. Legroom is cramped in the back seats of the sedan, and more comfortable in the hatchback. The sedan has 13.2 cu. ft. of trunk space, which is average for a compact sedan. How Does the 2014 Ford Focus Compare to Other Cars?

The 2014 Ford Focus ranks 36th out of 39 compact cars, based on owner reviews, near the bottom of the compact sedan class.

In first place is the Volkswagen Eos, which is a more expensive car than the Focus. The Eos ranks at the top primarily because the VW is a fun and reliable convertible. The VW targets a specific group of buyers looking for a weekend car, but neither of the options are a great daily driver.

A close competitor is the Honda Civic, which is slightly more expensive than the Focus. The Honda has better technology, is more engaging to drive, and has substantially better reliability ratings. The Focus has a more powerful engine available in the ST, but the Honda is still a better car.

Ranks #36 Small Cars by Owners

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Ford Focus a Good Car?

Based on 1,448 owner reviews, and information from 16 government and automotive websites, no, the 2014 Focus is not a good car. The positives include a nice cabin, and a powerful engine in the ST model. The downsides are poor reliability ratings, and limited passenger room in the sedan. Overall, if you're looking for a compact car, there are better options for the money.

Great car

The only negative I have to say is that the backseat is small. I have a 2 year old and his car seat takes up the entire backseat basically. I recently just totaled my car by hydroplaning and slamming into a concrete divider on the highway going about 60mph. I walked away completely unharmed minus some bruising across my stomach and shoulder from the seatbelt. I shouldn't have walked away from that crash like I did. But the car saved me.

Why I love my ford focus.

Ford focus was a pretty good car. It was fun to drive, versatile and available in a wide range of body styles. But as the years went on, newer and more polished rivals relegated it to mid-pack status. Not so with the current-generation focus, which debuted for 2012 and ranks among the best picks in the compact car segment.

It is gets good gas mileage. It drives nice. I have had to have the clutch replaced 2 times already though. Things seems to go wrong with it quite a bit. Part of me wishes I didn't get this car and got something else. I also already had a recall on the car for the door as well.

It is a very reliable car so far but has a problem shifting into second gear. It will shake and/or rattle when going into second gear. It is quite comfortable and performs well. It is a smooth ride and has everything I need and am looking for in a car.

Not the best, not the worst.

Tires do not last very long/multiple issues with tires- tire pressure light continuously stayed on even once we changed the tires. Brakes became faulty for a time period. Heated seats are a nice asset. Gas mileage on vehicle is long lasting. Air and heating does not go out. Experience overall driving a ford focus has been alright.

Decent for the price point.

The transmission has repeated issues, and the vehicle also has several recalls. The recalls range from the transmission, door lock issues, gas tank sensors, and so on. The horn on the car has also gone out repeatedly after being fixed, and it still goes out after working for about three days.

My reliable and safe ford focus.

This was my first car when I turned 16 and has been perfect for me. It is a great size for when you are starting to drive and has been a great size for residing in Los Angeles. The car had a minor engine recall in the past but was fixed in a timely manner and compensated by ford. The only complaints for the car are the small gas tank (I can only get 300 miles per full tank) and the engine struggles when climbing hills. My favorite features of the car are the Bluetooth Sony sound system and the heated seats.

Fun to drive, good mpg, comfortable.

My ford focus St is really nice. I like the mpg and the technology features, I wish it had more but I am fine with what it comes with. I haven't got any major problems yet. I feel confident with the car taking it on long trips. Performance is really good it is not a really fast car but it is really fun to drive and pushy with the little 2.0l turbo engine. Suspensions are really nice, you can feel stable on it; not to aggressive but comfortable at the same time. Would love some different exhaust notes just for being the St trim so it can be distinguished from the other trims but it is ok.

Small, fun car perfect for young teens or adults.

There was a recall in this model. Other than that, it drives good. It is very small; therefore, I do not recommend this for people with a family. Ages between 15-25 would be a good fit for this vehicle. The Bluetooth is a little dated and does not connect automatically, it has be reconnected each time.

It is a good car. I do not see anything wrong with it. I feel comfortable while driving it. I recommend the car to other people. 2014 ford focus se hatch is a dependable car at a reasonable price.

So far the 2014 ford focus has been reliable to me. I work in transportation part time and it is been doing the job just fine. It is got plenty of room and does not take much money to fill the tank. The things keeping it from a five star review for me is that it unfortunately has a kickback when you accelerate from a stop and it seems to really struggle picking up speed. Other than those two things I say it is a good enough vehicle. The electronics work just fine. Bluetooth is great and I am a fan of how the trunk has a cover so nobody can look into it.

Great small car with great gas mileage. Great first car for anyone who just got their license. It is not a good car for driving in the snow as it will slide. Would be better if the car offered a backup camera and have Sirius XM radio availability. The back seat is not kind of small.

Ford focus: a basic sedan.

Transmission seems prone to problems. Vehicle handles well, although the overall durability on the car is somewhat low. Body of the car seems like it does not hold together very well. Had to have all 4 tires replaced due to an alignment issue that had no clear cause other than general wear and tear.

The car will shake up acceleration, usually when shifting from 1-2 gear or 2-3 gear. Because it is so compact, we struggle to fit even 1 car seat in the vehicle, and anyone over 5'11' really is not comfortable in the vehicle.
